National Autistic Society

This is the main site for the National Autistic Society and provides plenty of useful advice and information.

Think Differently About Autism

This is the homepage for the National Autistic Society's 2008 "Think Differently About Autism" campaign. It contains lots of informative materials including a series of video clips which aim to show what living with autism can be like.

NAS on YouTube

The NAS have created a YouTube account which contains various campaign videos and interviews.

The Wrong Planet

An online resource with articles and discussion forums for individuals with autistic spectrum disorders and their families.

Treehouse

Treehouse is the national charity for autism education. Their website contains lots of useful advice including an A-Z of autism terms and a new online community called talk about autism where parents, carers and families can discuss issues about autism in a suportive environment.

ASD Friendly

This site is a support network of parents and carers and contains a blog, forum and discussions and information.

Afasic

UK charity which supports children and young people with language and communication difficulties, their families and professionals who work with them.  The website includes a range of downloadable information fact sheets and reports

A local support group run by parents for families who have children with special needs.

Communicate

Communicate is a registered charity aiming to help young people over the age of 15 who have mild communication problems find worthwhile employment. They run a youth club, offer job coaches, support at interviews and also run a shop on the Bridge which aims to offer training for work

Happy Kids Holidays

A new non-profit making organisation aiming to support families with children and teenagers with autistic spectrum disorders who want to holiday in France. They are able to find appropriate accommodation and provide practical support where necessary.

Ice ID

Ice ID supply a range of medical alert bracelets which could be suitable for some children with autism.  Personal details including emergency contact details are laser engraved onto a metal plate which attaches to a webbed wristband and could help reunite a lost child, especially one who has either limited language skills or is non verbal, with their carer.  They donate 10% of the sale of every autism bracelet to the NAS.

Spacekraft is a company which specialises in supplying sensory based equipment, toys and resources primarily for children with special needs.

Please be aware that we do have a range of these type of items in our sensory toy library which are available on loan.
